Coastal Conversations

The Invitation
What happens when we follow a question into someone else's way of seeing?
Coastal Conversations began with a curiosity about curiosity itself: what happens when we spend time with someone who notices something we don't?
It brings people together around ideas, materials, places, questions, and different kinds of knowledge. Each series begins with a conversation with someone who has a particular way of seeing, knowing, or doing, then unfolds through gatherings, experiments, and whatever emerges between the people involved.
There isn't a fixed format. The conversation is the starting point.

Between Tide + Paper
with ecologist Emily Gottlieb
Our first Coastal Conversations series explores the space between ecology, art, materials, place, and conversation.
Across two gatherings, we worked with seaweed, paper, observation, making, and one another. What began as a conversation between an artist and an ecologist opened into something we hadn't quite imagined.

More Conversations to Come
More conversations will grow from encounters with people who have something to share, whether that's a profession, a practice, a lifelong curiosity, or a completely unexpected area of knowledge.
You don't have to be an artist, scientist, or professional. You might have a strange hobby, a lifelong curiosity, a skill you learned from someone else, or simply know something the rest of us don't.
We don't need to know in advance where a conversation will lead. We can follow what makes us curious and see what emerges from there.
Come into the conversation.
You don't need to be an artist, scientist, or expert. Bring your curiosity.
